Genesis 3:8 – “And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…”
I sit at my desk watching the clock tick down to 4:00pm. Yes! Finally! It’s time to head home. I grab my purse and slowly walk to my car, tired from a day’s work. Although I have to tackle traffic on the freeway on the way home, I’m still relieved that I’ll soon be walking into my backyard garden. It’s funny how I can spend hours in my garden. What seems like a few minutes in reality turns out to be 2-3 hours spent tending to its needs. I never even notice the time passing by. You see, my garden is really my place to escape and de-escalate from the events of a long day at work. It’s as if I’ve stepped into a portal and walked over into the Garden of Eden. I find tranquility and serenity there. I’ve built my garden to mimic the ambience of the Garden of Eden.
It’s here in my garden where I can relax and pray talking to God about my day, my feelings, my victories and my challenges. I sit in my favorite spot and feel the cool breeze gently rush across my face. My mind is whisked away to thoughts about how things possibly were in the Garden of Eden. It was a paradise. I can only imagine the brilliant colors of the vegetation and fruit. I’m reminded of a verse in the Bible, Genesis 3:8. This verse speaks to when God visited His garden, “in the cool of the day.” I shut my eyes imagining myself walking with God and talking to Him. What a great way to end my day.
Take time to create a positive and enriching time with God in your garden. Play music, journal, or just sit back and admire what you’ve created.
Question: How does your garden make you feel?
